Re: How do you correct text entered on a flat pdf

That is what I tried prior to posting my question. It did not work for me. It would change the text behind the text entered,  i.e. the pdf has a lined area that you fill in. Using the add text I added the info to fill in the blank. After doing so I saved my changes, only to realize I needed to correct an entry I made. I choose the add text tool and tried to highlight my text entry, but it would only select the lined blank behind my test. It would delete that and leave my text there.

Issue with form from excel

I have a user that is growing a need to utilize the "Create PDF Form or Online Form," "Create from existing file..." feature of Adobe X Pro.

When the user in question chooses this option the second page of the form goes (going to use a technical term here) "wonkee."  The fields are out of order, what's more (and more pressing) is that it doesn't capture the signature fields properly, this seems to start on the second page.  The user then discusses this with a secondary user.  The secondary user was able to use the same file to create the form as you would expect based on the criteria of the excel sheet.  As this is to be done once or twice a week and may become a part of the business in other areas, I need a working solution.

Steps to troubleshoot:

Repair install - No resolution

Re-install - No resolution

Had primary user log a fore mentioned secondary user's computer - problem still prevails

Compared and mimicked all settings from working location to non-working location - No resolution

Moved working secondary users related application files (Hidden Apps folder) to primary users system - no resolution

In summary I was able to prove that this is correctable, that this is not computer specific, and is not related to the installation files located with-in the the "AppData" file nor the Program Folder (64 or 32-bit) folder.

What is my next step for resolution?

This sounds like a warning message that's coming from a script, which might not be working correctly.

Can you share the file in question?

Also, you can try disabling JS (Edit - Preferences - JavaScript) and see if that helps...

Note that it's not just forms that it corrupts, it can be any PDF if it contains something it doesn't understand, which includes a lot of things like layers, digital signatures, JavaScript, and many other things. It is really only safe to use with PDFs that you create with the OSX's native PDF generator.

Submit form part only, not the whole document

I have created a 8 page document with a one page reregistration form at the end of the document, this was created in InDeisgn cs6. The registration page consists of address, bank detail and signature fields, has a submit button that when a customer clicks submit, the completed document is sent back to my clients inbox who view the document in Reader and than collects the data.

What my client needs is the form part only (the registration page only), they do not need the whole document. Is there a way that I can do this from InDesign or Adobe Acrobat SC6, or something that tells PDF to send Reg page only but not the whole document?

Thanks, M

Not if the file is to be filled in using Reader. What you can do, though, is submit only the form data, which will result in a small FDF file that you could import into the PDF on your end.

Alternatively, you can split the file into two parts, but that has its own set of problems...

Thanks for your response, my client print out completed forms as proof of contract, so having form submitted as a data file will not work for them. Are there any alternatives, scripts or third party apps that maybe able to automate a split form from document?

It seems silly having a hundreds of customer submit a 2mb document that only the last page is required.

I don't see the problem... Are the files being digitally signed? If not then there's no difference at all between submitting the form data and using it to populate a local copy of the file and submitting the entire file.

It's technically impossible to extract a page from a PDF viewed in Reader.

Another alternative: Split the file in two parts and put a link on the last page of the first file to the second part, which will contain only the page with the form fields. You can add a link and some text to the page saying that it is a continuation of the first document.

How to use logic trail offline?

I have just purchased a basic subscription to FormCentral.

I wish to design a form with a logic trail to collect information from our customers during on site visits.

We will not have an internet connection at every site, so the form can not be web based.

If I save the form as a PDF I lose the logic trail, making the form useless.

Can I save the form on a tablet in an html like format which will leave it functional? We could then farm the results when the tablet comes back to our offices.

Adding % field, why does it keep adding 2 more digits?

I am trying to add a percent field that will be used to calculate a discount field.  Ill add the box, type in 25 with the idea it will show as 25%, but instead it shows up as 2500%.  Ive tried all the options I can see for that text box but nothing will change it to show as a basic 25%.  What am I doing wrong?

The value of a percentage field is defined to be between 0 ( = 0%) and 1 (

= 100%). That's just the way it is.

I dont know what that means.  How can I set it so if someone was to type 25, it would show as 25% and not 2500%?

Divide the value they're entering by 100, or use your own custom formatting

script to add the percentage symbol.

How do I make this calculation into script that works in my form?

It seems Acrobat Pro only has addition and multiplication presets, no dividing or subtraction.  So because of this, I dont know how to type in a custom calculation for what I need.  What I need is:

"SubTotal - DiscountTotal + Tax + Shipping = GrandTotal"

How do I enter this as something Acrobat understands?

You're 90% there, actually. Go to the properties of GrandTotal and enter this as the Simple Field Notation code under the Calculate tab:

SubTotal - DiscountTotal + Tax + Shipping

Converting PDF Forms to Word and Then Back to PDF with Forms In Tact

$

Hello,

We are currently having a heck of a time replacing some keywords in a collection of about a thousand PDF forms.  These forms were created in Word without any interactive functionality and then converted to PDF.  The simple form interactions were then added using Acrobat.

We figured out a way to replace all of the keywords by converting the PDF to Word, and then running a Visual Basic macro that does a Find and Replace on all of the documents at once.  Our problem is that we lose the functionality of the forms when we convert them to Word.  The docs have to be converted back to PDFs, and putting in all of the form interactivity in each file would take far longer than we have.

  1. Is there a better way to go about this than we're attempting?
  2. Is there a way to do these conversions and keep the interactive forms?

We essentially want the forms to behave exactly as they did, just with a few keywords changed.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Explain that the percentage needs to be entered in as decimal value not a percentage.
