"My guess is that you are trying to bring in changed links with the replacement page..."
Well, no. I'm not trying to bring in changed links; I'm just trying to bring in links.
During my first round of testing, after I inserted all of the form fields, I discovered that the links weren't there because I converted the doc to pdf in Acrobat rather than in Word. I was trying to correct that.
I hear you telling me that this problem really can't be fixed, and if I want the links to work I'll have to build the whole ten-page form again -- the thing I was originally hoping to avoid.
It's a teething problem, and I can avoid it when I create forms in the future, but right now it feels a lot like a kick in the pants.
Meanwhile, I got one more (and I hope final) problem. I created a "reader extended" file from the finished form, and tested it, and it worked correctly. Then I sent it to the person who needs to distribute it, and when he tried to enter data in a field he got this message:
"This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author of the original version of this document."
The document has been changed? Does sending it to its intended user count as changing it? That's all I did! What happened?
Later -- Since no one has answered yet, I tried to find an answer myself but had no luck.
The answer I found was that if I save a copy of the file without extended features, then open the copy and save a copy of the copy with extended features, it will work. That may be true, but I have yet to figure out how to save a copy of a the file without extended features. One post said that just saving it would do the trick. It didn't. I found another which advised using "File > Save a copy." That didn't either.
